Stefano SILVESTRI has been President of the International Affairs Institute since 2001. He has been a lead writer for Il Sole 24 Ore since 1985. Between January 1995 and May 1996 he served as Under Secretary of State for Defence, having been an advisor to the Under Secretary of Foreign Affairs, for European matters, in 1975, and a consultant to the Prime Minister's Office under various Governments. He continues to act as a consultant to both for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministries of Defence and Industry. As a professional journalist, he has been a special correspondent and columnist for Globo (1982), member of the Policy Committee of Europe (1979), and has contributed articles on foreign and defence policy to numerous national daily papers. He was Professor for Mediterranean Security Issues at the Bologna Centre of Johns Hopkins University (1972-76), and has worked at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London (1971-1972). He is currently a member of administrative council of the Associazione Industrie per l'Aerospazio, i Sistemi a la Difesa, (AIAD), and of the Trilateral Commission.

| Dr Jean-Pierre DARNIS Senior Research Fellow, Associate Professor at
the University of Nice. He coordinates the PASR program, one of the
main activities of the IAI security branch (Sentre, Astro+, Bio3r,
Staccato projects) focusing on security policies and technology, with a
special attention for space and security. Furthermore, he has developed
since 2004 a specific research program about relations between France
and Italy, dealing with politics, social but also industrial policy,
lately working on cross-border issues. Based on academic experience
(PhD in Human Sciences, university teaching), research activities,
business consulting and columnist writing, his background mixes policy
and social analysis with the knowledge of institutions, industry and
operational security scenarios.
|  | Alessandro MARRONE is a researcher at the IAI in the Security and Defence Area, he has attended in 2008-2009 a Masters in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Previously he has worked at IAI in both Transatlantic Relations and S&D Areas, mainly focusing on defence industry, ESDP and NATO. He gained a BA degree in Political Science and a MSc degree in International Relations from the LUISS university, both “cum laude” (first class honours). He actually collaborates with several Italian magazines focused on foreign affairs.
|  | | Valérie Vicky MIRANDA is a Junior Researcher in IAI Security and
Defence Area. After a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, she
obtained a Master’s Degree in International Relations at Roma Tre
University (both “cum laude”). She is interested in security and
defence, CFSP/ESDP, conflict management and prevention, also with
reference to the African continent, which she has been studying in
depth attending several extra-university courses and summer schools
abroad. She was a trainee at the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs
(Directorate-General for Development Cooperation) and in IAI, Security
and Defence Area. |  |
