Professor Sven BISCOP is Director of the Security & Global Governance Programme at Egmont – the Royal Institute for International Relations. He is a Visiting Professor for European security at the College of Europe in Bruges and at Ghent University and has been a visiting professor at Renmin University in Beijing and Carleton University in Ottawa. On behalf of Egmont, he is co-director of the Higher Studies in Security and Defence, a course for security practitioners organized in collaboration with the Belgian Royal High Institute for Defence, and sits on the Executive Academic Board of the EU’s European Security and Defence College (ESDC). He is also a member of the Scientific Councils of the Flemish Peace Institute (Brussels) and the Centre d’Etudes en Sciences Sociales de la Défense (Paris). He is editor in chief of Egmont’s journal Studia Diplomatica and of its Egmont Papers; member of the board of the Flemish United Nations Association; foreign languages book review editor of the journal European Foreign Affairs Review; and member of the editorial board of the journal Internationale Spectator (Clingendael Institute, The Hague). His recent research and publications have focussed inter alia on the European Security Strategy, on which he has published The European Security Strategy – A Global Agenda for Positive Power (Ashgate, 2005) and The EU and the European Security Strategy – Forging a Global Europe (Routledge, 2008, co-edited with Jan Joel Andersson).
|  | Brigadier General Jo COELMONT (Belgian Air Force) retired from active duty on 1st April 2008 and joined the reserve forces. He was the Belgian Permanent Representative to the Military Committee of the European Union and the Western European Union and Military Advisor to the Belgian Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union from January 2002 to October 2007. In April 2006 he was elected as Dean of the EUMC. In 2000 he was assigned to the Private Office of the Minister of Defence as Military Advisor for European and Security Policy in view of the Belgian Presidency of the EU during the second half of 2001. He now is a Senior Associate Fellow in Egmont’s Security & Global Governance Programme.

Holding an MA from the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University, he has extensive experience as consultant for various Washington-based think tanks and institutions, notably in the area of terrorism. |  |
